Supertrend reference

Shared reading rules — index notation, the L/S/N codes, crossings and Reverse — are on Signal passports. Main backtest settings and the card schema are on Settings and card schema. The behaviour contract is Rules for AI assistants.

Knowledge package 0.6.1, checked 22 September 2026, build 03613bfa. Use the shared role, Reverse and timing rules. ap is the ATR period; am multiplies ATR; offset selects earlier trend values. Defaults are 10, 3 and 0. Confirmed bounds: integer ap 5…100, numeric am 0.1…10, integer offset 0…200.

The trend uses ATR bands around (H+Lo)/2, with trailing/retained band values. It turns bullish when close is strictly above the previous upper trailing band and bearish when close is strictly below the previous lower trailing band; otherwise the preceding trend is retained. Touching a band does not by itself reverse it. Do not replace this retained state with a fresh comparison to unsmoothed bands on each bar.

Entry — supertrend.entry

Using the trend series after offset: a change from bearish (−1) to bullish (+1) gives L; bullish to bearish gives S; otherwise N. The offset selects older trend values, not current close versus an older Supertrend line.

Filter — supertrend.filter

The selected trend value +1 gives IS; −1 gives IL; another value gives N. A new transition is unnecessary. This is the current/offset trend state, unlike the entry's change event.

Exit — supertrend.exit

Use the transition with shared cba/Reverse rules. ATR multiplier and trend state do not specify an executable stop order or an exit fill price.

Definition coverage and observed controls

The controls below identify this dated schema. Their exact labels, value types and context overrides are in the catalogue. Any omitted standard selector must not be added manually.
