Bollinger fields

Shared reading rules — index notation, the L/S/N codes, crossings and Reverse — are on Signal passports. Main backtest settings and the card schema are on Settings and card schema. The behaviour contract is Rules for AI assistants.

Knowledge package 0.6.1, checked 22 September 2026, build 03613bfa. Use the shared role, Reverse and timing rules. M is the SMA of close over p bars; U/D are M ± stddev*standard_deviation. The examined variance divides by the number of values in the window. p is integer 5…200; stddev is integer 1…3; defaults are 20/2. A larger band distance is not a guarantee of a more reliable signal.

Entry — bollinger.entry

CEC: C1>D1 and C0<=D0 gives L; otherwise C1<U1 and C0>=U0 gives S; otherwise N. This leaves the inner channel.

CRTC: C1<D1 and C0>=D0 gives L; otherwise C1>U1 and C0<=U0 gives S; otherwise N. This returns into the channel.

These are crossing events with current equality included, not simply touches or current position. The observed calculation default is CR; CL is also a schema choice.

Position filter — bollinger.filter

offset is an integer 0…200 and matches current price to earlier bands; it does not shift the whole strategy. U/D/M below already use that offset. plc chooses BY_LAST_PRICE or BY_BAR_RANGE; ft chooses:

  • BD: last price C>=U gives IL; otherwise C<=D gives IS; otherwise AA. For bar range, H>=U and Lo<=D together gives N; otherwise H>=U gives IL; otherwise Lo<=D gives IS; otherwise AA.

  • BIC: last price C>=U or C<=D gives N; otherwise AA. For bar range H>=U or Lo<=D gives N; otherwise AA. Touching either boundary does not permit entry here.

  • BICFM: for last price define X=(C>=M or C<=D), Y=(C<=M or C>=U). For bar range X=(H>=M or Lo<=D), Y=(Lo<=M or H>=U). X and Y together gives N; otherwise X gives IL; otherwise Y gives IS; otherwise AA.

  • BHL: last price C>U gives IL; otherwise C<D gives IS; otherwise N. For bar range, H>U and Lo>U gives IL; otherwise H<D and Lo<D gives IS; otherwise N. All outer-region comparisons are strict.

  • BP: scan backward from the current evaluation, matching price to the offset bands. For last price, test C<=D first (IS), then C>=U (IL). For bar range, test Lo<=D first (IS), then H>=U (IL). Stop at the first qualifying region; if none occurs, give N. When a BP range bar touches both bands, the lower-band branch wins; BD would give N for that bar.

This filter is calculated on the changing candle and has no separate timing selector. Reverse swaps IL/IS; it does not turn BIC's N into AA.

Width filter — bollinger-width.filter

BOLLINGER_BANDS_WIDTH_PRICE_LIMIT has its own ei and cw; it does not offer Reverse, candle type or calculation timing. It uses Normal/current-candle data.

For D≠0, percentage width is W=abs((U−D)/D*100): the denominator is the lower band, not the mean. BN permits both sides (AA) when W<cw; BW permits both when W>cw; otherwise N. Equality W=cw permits neither. cw is a numeric threshold 0.1…100; no additional decimal step should be inferred from that range.

Exit — bollinger.exit

Use CEC/CRTC and the shared cba rules. The position and width filters are not equivalent to this channel event. Offset does not turn Bollinger into a different indicator family.
