# Creating Bybit API keys

To manually connect your own Bybit account to the robot, create an API key on the exchange's website and link it to the ITradingBot app. You get API Key and API Secret they'll need to be inserted into the robot's settings.

If you log in to your main account via the Basic button when you go to Bybit, use the account log in instructions. — [Account connection instructions](/en/bybit-robot/bybit-robot-connecting-your-own-account.md) For an Exchange Account created within ITradingBot, a separate manual pair is not required to run the robot.

### Set up an account

Open the Bybit website and log in to the account you want to connect to. If you connect a sub-account, create a key for it. Set up two-factor Bybit protection: you'll need confirmation when you create it.

Bybit indicates that keys are created through the site; the exchange app does not have this feature. For a new user, the creation of a key may be restricted within the first 48 hours after registration. This restriction applies to the manual creation of the key described in the official Bybit reference. — [official reference of Bybit](https://www.bybit.com/en/help-center/article/How-to-create-your-API-key)

F**or** a FREE robot, one of two conditions is sufficient: an account is registered via the ITradingBot referral link or an ITradingBot application is selected when creating the API key. — [Referral link to ITradingBot](https://partner.bybit.com/b/ITRADINGBOT) The second option is described below.

### Create a key and select ITradingBot

1. Open **The API** Manager on Bybit or select the API from the Exchange Profile menu. — [Manage the API on Bybit](https://www.bybit.com/app/user/api-management)
2. Click on Create a new key .
3. Select the system-generated API keys.
4. Select Connect to Third-Party Applications (Connect to Third-Party Applications) to assign the key.
5. In the list of applications, find and select ITradingBot. A simple key name ITradingBot is not enough: the application needs to be selected from a separate list.
6. Please specify a clear name of the key to distinguish it from other connections.

Check that the ITradingBot app is selected. If it is not listed or if the form requires additional settings, save the message text without keys and contact ITradingBot support. — [support for ITradingBot](https://t.me/ITradingBot_Support)

### Set the permissions

In the API permissions, select **Read and record**. Reading alone is not enough to send and change trading orders.

Select the Unified Trading Account group and check the items you selected:

* **Contract → Order** reading, creating, modifying and cancelling orders on derivatives.
* **Contract → Position** reading position and access to its settings, including leverage and margin.
* USDC contracts → Trade in derivatives of USDC.
* I'm not going to trade.

These buttons are right on the key side of Bybit. They don't add a trading robot or a function to themselves. Do not include withdrawals, asset transfers or block trades for this procedure.

### Confirm the creation and keep it secret

1. Click Send .
2. Pass the security check on Bybit the way the exchange offers.
3. In the result window, copy the **API Key** and **API Secret** to a secure location. The secret must be kept immediately: once the window is closed, it cannot be retrieved.
4. Close the confirmation window and check that the new key appears in the list of links to ITradingBot.

Do not send the key and secret to Telegram or support or include them in screenshots. If the secret is lost, create a new pair; before you retrieve the old key, check which connections use it.

### Add the key to the robot

1. Go back to ITradingBot and manually connect to Bybit. — [How to connect to Bybit](/en/bybit-robot/bybit-robot-connecting-your-own-account.md)
2. In the settings of the robot without a key connected, click Add API → Sub Account.
3. Put the key in the **API Key**, and the secret in the **Api Secret**, then click Add.
4. Wait for the settings update. If ITradingBot shows an error, check the key/secret pair, the selected application and the trading permissions. The connection is not complete while the error remains.

Do not remove the active key just to verify this instruction. The API connection and the robot launch are done separately: before Start, check the settings and prepare the tasks.
