# Filter by volatility

The filter checks for minute bar volatility or change in this indicator. A condition that is fulfilled allows both directions, a condition that is not fulfilled does not allow either.

### Add a filter to the task

Open up the task of creating or editing a [Binance robot](/en/binance-robot/binance-first-task-and-launch.md) or a Bybit robot. — [The Bybit robot](/en/bybit-robot/bybit-first-task-and-launch.md) In the filter block, select Volatility.

Field Active is missing. Set the filter for the pair the task is going to work with.

### Set the calculation

* **Calculation** On closing the bar or On crossing (every second). The first uses closed bars, the second takes into account the current unopened bar. In the new form, the mode P is selected (every second).
* Analysis time (m) smoothing period: from 10 to 1440 minutes, multiplied by 10. The starting value is 60.
* **The deviation** threshold for the selected type of comparison. In the new form, 0.5 is indicated for the volatility level.
* **Allow entry if** you choose a volatility level, absolute increase or relative increase. When the conditions change, check the threshold and its units again.

### When the filter allows action

* For each minute bar, the ratio of the difference between maximum and minimum to minimum bar is first calculated in percentages. Then the values are smoothed out to the exponential mean for the selected period.
* Volatility is greater than the given value, % allows action when the value is not below the threshold; Volatility is less than the given value, % is strictly below the threshold.
* **Absolute growth** compares the difference between the new and previous values of the indicator. The threshold here is a change in interest rates.
* The relative increase compares the same difference to the previous value of the indicator, in percentages. In conditions of greater equality the threshold is allowed, in conditions of less equality there is no.

### Determine the meaning of the parameters

For example, changing the indicator from 0.4% to 0.5% gives an absolute increase of 0.1 percentage point and a relative increase of 25%. These two thresholds cannot be replaced. Growth keeps the sign: when the indicator decreases it is negative.

### Set the action when you exit the filter

Field When the filter is out refers to the situation when the task stops passing this condition. The new card has the Cancel Cycles option. The form also includes Sell by market and Sell by market with deviation (if indicated).

The filter can also affect a task that is already working: the exit from the condition transmits the selected command. Before you save, check the command's implications for your robot in the Binance or Bybit task description. — [Binance tasks](/en/binance-robot/binance-robot-tasks-and-active-trades.md) — [Bybit tasks](/en/bybit-robot/bybit-robot-tasks.md)

### Save and verify the task

Save the filter card, then check the rest of the conditions and parameters. Several filters should allow it to move at the same time. The filtering permission itself does not mean that the order has been sent or executed.

If the task mode supports the task without a basic signal, the filters can be involved in its start. So the conditions and the action you choose to take when you exit them should be checked before the robot starts.
