# On-Balance Volume — OBV

The balance volume (OBV) card uses a normalized and smoothed OBV oscillator. It forms a signal when you leave or return to the channel and is available for ISignal entry or exit.

### Add the card to the designer

Open the Binance or Bybit robot task and [The ISignal](/en/signals-and-strategy-conditions/isignal-entry-filters-and-exit.md) designer. Select the **Balance volume (OBV)** in the entry or exit block.

The trading instrument is out of the question. The new card uses form values; it's not a recommended strategy.

### Set the settings

* TF is selected from the list of current form; by default 1 minute.
* The **Type of candle**s is Ordinary or Hakeen-Ash, by default Ordinary.
* **Calculation** allows you to select closed bars or current unlocked bars mode On the intersection (every second). The initial value is On the intersection (every second).
* **OBV Channel Length** smoothing period for normalization, from 2 to 200 bars. By default 5.
* **OBV Average Length** period of final smoothing, from 2 to 200 bars. By default, it's 10.
* The normalization coefficient is involved in the oscillator scale. The starting value is 0.015. Zero is not a good value for calculation.
* **The upper boundary** and lower boundary set the oscillator levels. In the new form, 75 and −75 are indicated.
* Condition On leaving the channel or on returning to the channel. By default When you exit the channel.

### When the signal is formed

* At the exit of the channel: the transition down through the lower boundary forms a long signal; the transition up through the upper is short.
* When you return to the channel: the transition up through the lower boundary forms a long signal; the transition down through the upper is short.
* A new value can accurately reach the limit: it is considered a crossover if the previous value was strictly on the other side. Being abroad doesn't form a new signal on its own.

These rules apply to the deactivated Reverse field? the initial state of the form. The switch changes the long and short. The condition of the intersection itself is preserved.

### Consider the meaning of the calculation

The 75 and -75 boundaries are on the oscillator scale. It's not the money market volume or the size of your deals. The separate filter By Balance Volume (OBV) checks the current position of the channel.

### Save the card and check the action

In the entry, the long signal is suitable for the long task, the short is short. In the exit, the correspondence is the opposite: the short signal serves as the condition for leaving the long, the long from the short. Other conditions of the task are also taken into account.

Check the field when you get the signal to exit. The initial mode takes into account deviation; its result depends on its configuration and the type of robot and does not guarantee profitable execution. The actions available may vary between modes.

Keep the card and check its role. Details of the commands and restrictions are provided in [The ISignal instructions](/en/signals-and-strategy-conditions/isignal-entry-filters-and-exit.md). The signal is not equal to the executed warrant.
