# Volatility: level signal

The indicator Volatility forms a signal when the calculated volatility satisfies the chosen condition at the level. The signal does not select a direction and is available in the ISignal entry and exit blocks.

### Add the card to the designer

Open the Binance or Bybit robot task and [The ISignal](/en/signals-and-strategy-conditions/isignal-entry-filters-and-exit.md) designer. Select Volatility in the entry or exit block.

The trading instrument is out of the question. The new card uses form values; it's not a recommended strategy.

### Set the settings

* **Calculation** allows you to select closed bars or current unlocked bars mode On the intersection (every second). The initial value is On the intersection (every second).
* Analysis time (m) Smoothing time of minute bars: from 10 to 1440 minutes with step 10. By default, 60.
* **The deviation** of the threshold of volatility in percent. The starting value is 0.5.
* **Allow entry if** Variability is greater than the given value, % or Variability is less than the given value, %. The first condition is chosen in the new form.

### When the signal is formed

* For a minute bar, the difference between maximum and minimum is calculated divided by minimum and multiplied by 100%. Then the values are smoothed out to the exponential mean for the selected period.
* The volatility is greater than the given value, % forms the signal when the value is not below the threshold.
* The volatility is less than the given value, % forms the signal when the value is below the threshold. It's a level check; no new threshold crossing is required.

### Consider the meaning of the calculation

As an entry signal, it fits the task in any direction chosen, if the other conditions are met. As an exit, it can be a condition for both the long and short; the actual action is determined by the exit setting. Volatility doesn't tell us where the price is going.

### Save the card and check the action

Check the field when you get the signal to exit. The initial mode takes into account deviation; its result depends on its configuration and the type of robot and does not guarantee profitable execution. The actions available may vary between modes.

Keep the card and check its role. Details of the commands and restrictions are provided in [The ISignal instructions](/en/signals-and-strategy-conditions/isignal-entry-filters-and-exit.md). The signal is not equal to the executed warrant.
