# Vortex Indicator

The Vortex compares two lines: VI+ and VI−. The ISignal entrance and exit blocks are subject to their intersection. The period and time of calculation are specified in the indicator card.

### Prepare the card

Add the Vortex to the right block. The instrument is out of the question. Choose **The TF**, Candle Type and Period from 2 to 50 bars. By default, the period is 14, which is the value of the new card, not the recommendation.

The calculation uses the maximum, minimum and closing prices of bars. The period refers to the bars of the chosen timeframe.

Select **Calculation** in the Bar Closing or Intersection (secondly). The first mode checks the closed bar, the second mode checks the forming bar. The signal before the bar closes may differ from the check after it closes.

### How the signal is generated

When the Reverse is turned off, the directions are defined as follows:

* Long signal: VI+ was lower than VI−, and now it's either equal to or higher.
* Short signal: VI− was lower than VI+, and now it's either equal to or higher.

For a new signal, a transition is required: simply keeping VI+ above or below VI− does not create it. The reverse switch changes the direction of the signals in places.

### Select the application in the task

The signal in the entry block must match the direction of the task. Without a reverse, the VI+ crossing from the bottom up is suitable for entering the long, and the VI− crossing from the bottom up for entering the short.

In the exit block without reverse, the long closes on the short signal, the short on the long. The field will set the reaction **When the signal is received**. The variation, taking into account the deviation, depends on its configuration and the type of robot and does not guarantee profitable execution.

The Vortex filter has a separate card: its state does not replace the addition of an entry or exit signal. Keep the card and check the conditions of the task according to [The ISignal instructions](/en/signals-and-strategy-conditions/isignal-entry-filters-and-exit.md). The process of developing an indicator doesn't mean executing an order on the exchange.
